Steven Cunningham, Partner at Alexander Sloan, has contributed expert insight to the Credit Union Outlook Report 2025 – a landmark publication capturing the evolving risk, compliance and resilience landscape across the UK and Irish credit union sector.

Produced by Drova in collaboration with the Swoboda Research Centre, the report brings together survey insights from 51 credit unions and broader reflection from 18 sector leaders. Steven’s perspective offers a clear call to sharpen the boardroom’s focus on cyber risk and operational resilience – areas where expectations are rising, but clarity is often lacking.

“Credit unions, by nature of being financial institutions, are attractive targets for cyberattacks. Yet cyber is still often viewed as an IT issue, not a board issue,” Steven notes in the report. “Resilience starts with governance.”

The report presents a sector that is adapting with purpose – one where compliance is being reframed as strategic, digital maturity is no longer optional, and shared infrastructure may hold the key to sustainable progress.
