Glasgow City Council has announced a new initiative to promote financial education and to boost local Credit Unions. The council plan to open Credit Union accounts for all children in Glasgow entering secondary school and put £10 in their accounts. Glasgow already has more Credit Union members than any other city in Britain and this should provide a further boost to the sector.  Hopefully the move will encourage the next generation of Credit Union members and it will also encourage their family members to join a Credit Union. While there has been a number of successful primary school projects, more work is needed to encourage secondary school pupils. We hope other councils throughout the country look at the new initiative and consider implementing it within their area.
